MEMBERSHIP POLICYHow to Apply for Membership To apply for membership, candidates need to complete an application and mail it to the GRCP at PO Box 8215, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028. Candidates can obtain an application by:
Waiting List If the Pool's membership is full, a candidate's name will be placed on a waiting list and kept in chronological order by date received. Residents of Glen Ridge get first preference. Non-residents must wait until all resident applications have been satisfied. Prospective Members on the waiting list will be notified by mail when a membership is available. Initiation Fees All Membership categories are required to pay a non-refundable one-time initiation fee ($1250.00; $480.00 Seniors) in addition to a yearly seasonal membership fee. If you do not renew your membership and then wish to rejoin, you must pay the initiation fee again. Neither the initiation fee nor seasonal membership is transferable. (The Initiation Fee and yearly membership fees may be adjusted by the Executive Committee on an annual basis). Membership Categories
Change of Membership Classification If a Single Member wishes to change his/her membership category to Full Family during the season, he/she must pay the difference between the Full Family and Single seasonal Membership Fee. If a Full Family membership wants to change to a Single Membership during the season, the GRCP will not refund the difference between the two seasonal fees. MEMBERSHIP INFORMATIONRenewals Renewal notices for all memberships will be mailed each January. Payments should be made to the Glen Ridge Community Pool no later than MARCH 1st. Payments received past the deadline will incur a $50 late fee. If for any reason, a Financial Institution dishonors a Members check, the member will need to make full restitution in cash/cashiers check/certified check plus, any and all Bank Charges and a $30.00 processing fee. All future payments from Member will also be in form of cash/cashiers check/certified check. If a member's annual dues are not received by the date the pool opens that season, the member then forfeits the membership. (Founding Members refer to the Founding Member Policy in this Booklet). Leave of Absence Members are allowed to take a one (1) year leave of absence every 5 years. The GRCP must be notified in writing by MARCH 1st of the season that a member wishes to take a leave of absence. The member does not pay the dues for that year and is not entitled to use the pool. The member then pays the following years dues by the March 1st deadline and resumes the membership. If the member wishes to resign the following year, and they are a founding member, they must pay the membership fee of the year they took a leave of absence in order to obtain their founders fee refund. Identification Cards ID cards are issued to new members. Each season every member must receive a validation sticker for his or her ID card. Stickers and new ID Cards are given out each year, to paid members, at the Glen Ridge Arts Festival, and at the Pool upon check-in. Members who lose their cards may receive one free replacement. Additional card replacements will cost $5. Guests Each membership is allowed five (5) paid guests per day. The Pool Manager may limit guests when, in his/her judgment, pool safety and member enjoyment could be in jeopardy. Reservations are required for Holidays (i.e., July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day). POOL CAPACITY is limited to 420. Members are required to remain with their guests and are responsible for their conduct while in the pool complex. Note, an individual is only allowed to be a guest five times per season. Guest Fees
Rain checks If the pool is closed due to inclement weather, or other emergency conditions, rain checks / rebates will not be provided. Updating Member Information It is very important for the pool to have accurate member information. If a member's email, address or telephone number changes, please email the pool manager at poolmanager@glenridgenj.org and inform him of the changes. A message can also be left on the pool voice mail (973) 743-2160. The Pool's primary mode of communication is Email - it is very important that members ensure that they are receiving emails from the pool. FOUNDING MEMBER POLICYThe first four hundred (400) members who are residents of Glen Ridge, and paid the Joiners Fee prior to 5/15/02, shall be considered Founding Members. Founding Members may, within the first ten (10) years of Pool opening (ending 2013), sell their membership, through the Pool Executive Committee, to the next family/person on the Executive Committee's membership waiting list, provided that there is someone on the list who is willing to join. Letters of Resignation must be submitted in writing to GRCP, PO Box 8215, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028. The Founding Member's written letter of resignation must be received by MARCH 1st of the year in which they are resigning and the founding member must be in good standing with the previous year's membership paid in full. The refund of the original Joiners Fee will be issued after September 1st of the same year. Resignations received after March 1st or during the course of the season or at any other time will not receive a refund until after September 1st of the following year, assuming that the current season's pool membership has been paid in full and there are prospective members on the waiting list who are willing to join. There will be no exceptions to this policy. NOTE: Only written and signed resignations will be accepted. Voicemail or email messages will not be accepted as a form of resignation. If there is no one on the waiting list, founding members have 2 options:
Donating Your Founding Members Fee The idea behind the founding member refund was that those very first members, who took a risk by contributing to the Pool before there was even a hole in the ground, should have the option to get their money back during the first 10 years of the Pool's operation, which ends on March 1, 2013. However, the annual refund of founding member fees is one of largest line item expenses of the Pool. In an effort to reduce the financial burden on the Pool, the Executive Committee pursued the town's approval to allow founding members to donate their founding member's fee for a tax write-off. The town approved this process in the Spring of 2007. The Executive Committee reached out to all founding members who resigned in 2007 to request that they consider donating their founders fee. Additionally, in late Fall 2007, the Executive Committee will be mailing a request to all remaining Founding Members, requesting that they proactively donate their membership. |
